P&C Newsletter – Term 4, Week 3 2024 – South Coogee Public School Parents and Community

Welcome to Term 4, and the most fun term of the year for the kids. Thank you to everyone that has been volunteering this year, the P&C Exec team really appreciate each and every one of you. From helping on cake stalls, BBQs, sorting books, assisting at Book Fair, baking, buying, donating and acting as Class Parents. It takes an army and we THANK YOU.

We have Fiesta on the horizon in a short couple of weeks, and for those that have not attended one, please get excited as it really is such an amazing event.

We have rides (and a dunk tank – yes, Ms Fisher will be going in), loads of games and stalls, free craft, free face painting, free sports, a second hand market, an international food court, bands, dance and speakers all day, and a bar from 2-4pm. We really would LOVE the WHOLE school community to get involved. Bring your friends, family, neighbours… this is not just an event for the school, but the community around us too.

FIESTA RIDE TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE!!!

Presale ride tickets are now for sale, and they are heavily discounted! These discounted presale tickets will only be available until 4pm Friday 15th November. After this you will only be able to buy tickets on the day, at the higher price of $45 each. No exceptions!

There will also be Single Ride tickets sold on the day, for $8 per ride.

This year we have booked in some huge rides such as the Storm, Cup & Saucer, Super Slide, Mini Pirate Ship, Boot Camp Obstacle Course, Gladiator Dual, and a smaller Bouncy Castle for the little ones.

We also have the forever loved Dunk Tank where the kids get to dunk teachers like Ms Fisher, and they even get a chance to dunk each other! Dunk Tank tickets will be sold on the day only, and are not included in the Rides Tickets.

** This year we will be offering discounted tickets for SCPS families with 3 or more children. The ticket holders must be immediate family members – brothers/sisters in the same household, NOT additional family members such as cousins, nephews etc. All ticket holder names are to be recorded in Humanitix, and if these terms are breached then the discounted tickets will be refunded immediately, and no longer available to the purchaser. To get your code for these sibling tickets, please email scps.pandc@gmail.com. All decisions will be made by the FIESTA Coordinator and SCPS P&C President, and will not be entered into **

SECOND HAND MARKETS

Ready for a Spring Clean Out?? South Coogee Public School Community Events FIESTA now includes a Second Hand Market!

For the first time we will be offering a limited number of 2nd hand stalls to our local community! Located in our gorgeous Kindy Quad, book your spot and be a part of a great day!

RAFFLE AND AUCTION

Both the auction and the raffle tickets are live, spread the links far and wide as anyone can enter and anyone can win. Some amazing prizes, nearly $4000 in the raffle including a Nintendo Switch and EA Games first prize bundle. Nearly $20,000 of value in the Auction, so check it out. AFTERNOON DRINKS & PUB TUNES

Our afternoon bar is back! From 2pm – 4pm, come and enjoy a quiet drink in the Hall while the kids keep running off their energy! Be entertained by the SCPS Staff/Parent Band and then cover tunes by The Dave White Trio!

FIESTA FLYERS AND POSTERS

From this afternoon onwards there will be A5 flyers, A3 posters, A1 and A0 signage ready for pick up to be distributed in our community. If your house fence or business is in a high traffic area, please come and grab a sign to help promote FIESTA!

If you have anywhere to put posters please grab too. Flyers are for dropping in letterboxes in the area and in car parks like Heffron where kids/families will be. If you are flyer dropping please let us know where do we don’t double up.

All of us need to help market this event to make it super busy and awesome! Take what you need but return what you don’t use so others can use and we can get maximum coverage.

HOW CAN I HELP?

I know that is the question on everyone’s lips. So apart from obviously coming, buying ride tickets, enjoying the stalls and having a good time. Spread the word! Far and wide please. Some stalls also rely heavily on school donations, so please consider helping out if you can sourcing the below items, and PLEASE please please donate an hour or two on the day if you are able to assist your class stall.

COLOUR RUN

You may have heard your kids talking about a Colour Run at the end of Term, or seen their prize booklets coming home in their schoolbags. The Colour Explosion School Run 4 Fun will be on Tuesday 3rd December from 1-3pm in and around the Paddock at school. It involves inflatable obstacles, a heap of coloured powder and foam machine. Parents welcome to watch, or lob colour!

Fundraising for our Colour Explosion School Run 4 Fun is entirely online. Follow the instructions in your child’s sponsorship booklet to create a cybersafe, online profile page at http://www.australianfundraising.com.au.

At the end of the fundraiser either order prizes to receive or donate to a cause – Carbon Neutral (tree planting), Great Barrier Reef Foundation (coral planting or turtle protection), The Smith Family (reading support) or OzHarvest (providing meals)

Ensure you at least complete your profile by Sunday 3 November to get a free Monty Scented Pencil. Each kid running will also receive fun sunnies and headbands.

EVERY kid is welcome to run, but we do appreciate you trying to get some sponsors (plus the kids get prizes from as little as $10 raised so win win!)

NUMBERWORX ‘N WORDS

SCPS is participating in the Learn to Earn scheme with Numberworx ‘n Words. If you are looking for a tutoring option, please mention SCPS when enrolling. Numberworx will also have a stall at Fiesta if you have questions, and you can also bid on their term packages in the Fiesta Auction (link above!)

Who are NumberWorks’nWords?
NumberWorks’nWords is an after-school tutoring company that provides specialist tuition to build students’ confidence and improve their math and English results. Tuition complements the work done at school, following the Australian curriculum, and our teaching methods are compatible with those used in the classroom. Teaching is one-on-one, with each tutor looking after up to three students. It allows for individual instruction plus independent practice, creating a confident learner in the classroom. This is a method that has been fine-tuned over the last 40 years and has proven to be both effective and enjoyable. We have thousands of successful past students around the world who demonstrate it!

What is Learn 2 Earn?
Learn 2 Earn is a unique offering for schools and sporting clubs. Families from your school or club who enrol in NumberWorks’nWords during Term 4 will have 10% of their tutoring fee contributed to your school. This money can be spent on books, sporting equipment, technology, and more!

This is a win-win program. Students receive additional support complementary to their classroom learning, building their confidence and results that spill over to the classroom, developing confident learners eager to engage.

What parents need to do:

There are just 3 simple steps for families to be involved:

1. Enrol in NumberWorks’nWords Eastgardens in 2024.

2. Write your nominated school on the back of your tuition receipt and put it in the Learn 2 Earn box in the NumberWorks’nWords centre.

3. Earn rewards for your school as they allocate proceeds towards their chosen resources.
