P&C Newsletter Term 4, Week 2

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to Term 4! We’re limping towards the finish line of what has been a crazy 2020, well done all for getting this far! We’ve got a lot to talk about, so lets jump in.

P&C Meeting

The next P&C Meeting will be on Wednesday 28th October 2020 at 7pm. We will be delivering this meeting via Zoom again due to event restrictions.

The meeting link is in the Facebook Group event, and will also be emailed to you via your Class Parent Rep. If you are not getting these emails, please let us know via scps.pandc@gmail.com

Meeting minutes of the previous meeting can be found here:

Crazy Camel Fundraiser

Our major fundraiser in Term 4 will be Crazy Camel personalised gifts! Some of you may remember the calendars and other mech items that 1J did for the Fiesta stall last year, and we will be resurrecting this again!

Each class will be doing a combined artwork, which you can then purchase on a range of items – from calendars to tea towels, to mugs to tote bags! These are perfect gifts for grandparents, aunts and uncles, and others for Christmas. The children will be creating the art works next week, so keep an eye out in the coming weeks for order options!

Silver Coin Challenge

The Silver Coin Challenge ran in the last few weeks of Term 3, and it was an absolute cracker! With funds raised going to the Y6 Graduation Event, all classes got involved and we raised an amazing $3,692.25 (a couple of hundred less than previously reported as we had to take all the foreign currency out!). Well done!!!

Because of the huge amount raised, we have decided to give 1st and 2nd places out- with each of those classes raising more than $300 each. And the winners are…

Junior School:
🥇 1B
🥈 2J

Senior School:
🥇 4A (with a whopping $477.05)
🥈 5/6M

After much thought (because we can’t do shared pizza lunches at the moment), we have decided to give a canteen credit of $5 to each child in the winning class, and an iceblock to each child in the 2nd class. We’ll be in touch with more details to the winning classes soon.

 Uniform News

With much anticipation and excitement, we are pleased to announce the launch of the NEW UNIFORM SHOP!!! Details as follows, please read as it is important!

MunchMonitor

The ‘school shop’ within MunchMonitor has been disabled as at Wednesday 21 October, however any orders placed up until that point will be fulfilled this Friday (23 October).  Please note that canteen orders will continue to be placed via MunchMonitor as that is the system our canteen provider uses.

Why the move?

We made the decision to transfer to the Square platform to ensure consistency (as this is the system used by the P&C for all school events) and for increased functionality.

Due to Covid, parents and carers cannot come onto the school grounds therefore this platform should be used for all your uniform needs until restrictions ease and we are able to reopen the uniform shop for face-to-face sales.

Berelle’s and Wileys

We source our uniforms through various suppliers however only two of which have historically been accessible to the public.  As you may be aware, Berelles School Wear closed their shop front in Maroubra a few months back.  At this point the P&C made the decision to stock all girl’s style uniform items as well as boy’s style uniforms to ensure that parents and carers continued to have a local option to purchase uniforms.  Berelle’s will continue to hold limited stock of various items which can be purchased via their website: https://www.berelleschoolwear.com.au

We have welcomed Wileys to continue stocking our uniforms however we are yet to receive confirmation of this.  Our understanding is that they have very limited stock remaining at this point.  We will advise any updates on this as soon as possible.

Square/New Uniform Shop

All uniform items can now be purchased via the new uniform website:

https://scps-uniformshop.square.site

You do not need to open an account, you simply select the ‘shop now’ button on the home page.

Delivery of orders

Currently the shipping option within Square is set to ‘pick-up’ (as indicated in the system) however due to Covid all orders placed for current students by close of business on Thursday each week will be delivered to their classroom on the Friday of that week.  Orders for new students will be available for collection from the school office.

Orders for current students

Important – In order to ensure that orders are delivered to student’s classrooms, please include the student’s full name (first name and surname) and class in the notes section on the last page of the checkout.

Orders for new students not yet attending the school

Important – In order to ensure that your order is made available for collection at the school office, please include the new student’s full name (first name and surname) and the words ‘new student’ in the notes section on the last page of the checkout.

New pricing

Below/attached you will find the new uniform shop price list.  Prices had not been reviewed for over five years and we have ensured that our prices continue to remain competitive.

Second-hand items

Second-hand items are still available from the uniform shop albeit in varying quantities for different items.  We have seen a reduction in donations likely due to Covid therefore we encourage you to continue making donations which can be left at the school office.

The second-hand items are not currently available in the new website however we will be adding them in the coming weeks.  We will advise as soon as they are available. In the interim, please contact us on uniformshopscps@gmail.com if you require any second-hand items.

Finally, a huge thank you to those who have volunteered their time to get the new system up and running including but not limited to Brad Mitchell, Ellise Andreacchio and Deanna (Dee) Rodden. You are all amazing!

If you have any questions please send us an email at uniformshopscps@gmail.com.

We look forward to assisting you with all your uniform needs!

Year 6 Graduation

Well 2020 has definitely thrown up some challenges not going to lie. We’re sure it is with a mix of sadness and excitement that you, and your Y6 children, are preparing to farewell South Coogee Public School and making the move into a whole new world of learning and growing at high school.

Although year 6 would normally be going to Canberra, Movie Day, Luna Park and being part of the schools Musicale and sports carnivals, I’m sure you can agree that we need to come together and make their end of year celebrations as awesome as we can!

As part of this very special milestone, we will be inviting all our Year 6 students to attend an exciting fun-filled extravaganza event to celebrate. This afternoon of F.U.N will be for students and their teachers who have been a part of our children’s journeys at South Coogee Public School.

Due to strict COVID safety guidelines set out by the NSW Dept. of Education the celebrations will be limited to the Year 6 Class of 2020 and supervising teachers/staff.  More details will come very soon but please save this date Tuesday 15th December.

Your child’s graduation from South Coogee Public encompasses a few special elements including:

  • Graduation Afternoon Extravaganza with friends and teachers – FUN, FOOD, FABULOUS FRIENDS & MEMORIES;
  • Commemorative Class of 2020 year book & Goodie Bag
  • Time Capsule & gift to the school as a memento/legacy of their extraordinary year group during an extraordinary year.

For this important grandiose crescendo event to happen we NEED YOUR SUPPORT YEAR 6 PARENTS AND CARERS. Fundraising opportunities have been considerably reduced this year and while we have been fortunate to raise some impressive funds, we also ask for an essential contribution of $60 towards the graduation event per Y6 family. Let’s work together to ensure this group of amazing kids can celebrate together and enjoy all that the end of year will bring. Please feel free to contribute more if you wish.

Payments are required by Wednesday 4th November and can be made online via our Chuffed Page HERE.

New AV in School Hall & COLA

Over the school holidays we finally installed a new audio system into the school hall, consisting of a new AV control system and speakers. The system, although with loads of new funky features, has been simplified for the teachers making usage much easier. We have new speakers outside in the COLA (sounds soooo good!), and now also new speakers facing out to the paddock that can be used for speech or music for events.

We presented the new system to the teachers and school exec on Monday afternoon, with many ooohhhs and aaahhhhs – they were very excited!

Thanks to our wonderful installers D2N Pty Ltd for their wonderful work! We can’t wait for some events again when we can show this new system off!
