P&C Newsletter, Term 4 Week 8

Dear Parents and Carers,

And just like that… we are at the end of Term 4 and the 2022 school year! We have had so many fantastic events this year… from the Twilight Cinema, Disco, Silver Coin Challenge, Mothers/Fathers/Election Day BBQs, Chistmas Tree and Pudding Sales… the list goes on! Thanks to everyone’s support we have managed to provide the school with a cheque for $20,500 last week which is purchasing new chromebooks for the students. The Graduation for Year 6 will also be a roaring success, again due to some amazing fundraising efforts.

School Improvements

During the summer holidays, some fabulous improvements will be taking place at the school. The roof tiles are all being replaced, so the school will no longer leak in the rain! Even more excitingly, the Cool Classrooms program is being implemented so that the classrooms will be temperature controlled for 2023.

Enrolments

Enrolments are down for 2023, which means that currently classes will drop from a total of 22 to 18. The drop in enrolments is common across the Eastern Suburbs as people move their families to more rural/affordable areas! The by product of working from home means that people no longer have to live near the city. The drop in classes means a loss of some teaching staff unfortunately. However, if SCPS receive just 10 more kindy applications this will change, so please recruit any pre schoolers you know! Out of area applications are acceptable.

Exec Roles

Term 1, Week 7 is the AGM meeting where all Exec Roles will be vacated and up for nomination again. If you are interested in joining we are particularly recruiting for a new Treasurer and Secretary, along with general roles. You can see role descriptions here:

Presentation Days

Stage 1 – Friday 9 December 9.15am

Stage 2 – Tuesday 6 December 9.15am

Stage 3 – Wednesday 7 December 9.15am (Presentation Day and Leadership roles)

Remainder of 2022

Thank you to everyone that ordered Christmas Trees and Puddings, they can be collected from the school between 8am-10am this Saturday.

Transition Webisodes

Ethics

This year we have had 4 new volunteer Ethics Teachers start at our school which means we are now offering classes to years 1, 3, 5 and kindergarten. These new classes are in addition to year 2 and 4 run by our existing volunteer ethics teachers. However, as we continue to have a waitlist, it would be wonderful to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer. Ethics classes are run on Thursdays from 2-2:30pm for K-2 and Thursdays from 2:30-3pm for Y3-6. More teachers will also allow us to open up more classes for those years in which our class sizes are at their maximum (ie. 22 students).

Ethics classes can be taught by parents, carers, grandparents, other family or members of the community. If you would like to consider volunteering for Ethics or know someone who may be interested, please contact our ethics coordinator (and current ethics teacher) Lyndall Mulconry on 0438 648 186 or l.mulconry@outlook.com or visit this link: https://primaryethics.com.au/volunteer/ethics-teacher/
