P&C Newsletter – Term 4, Week 5

Dear Parents and Carers,

So much going on at school at the moment, as you are probably aware from the influx of facebook posts and skoolbag alerts. I have summarised here so please take a look at get involved with the school community.

Twilight Cinema – Friday 11th November

Finally the much anticipated Twilight Cinema can go ahead after a couple of years of postponement, and months of rain! This is the first major fundraiser since pre covid and we are super excited to be back hosting large scale events. The cinema will be open to all, so invite friends, family and neighbours!

The movie will be Sing 2, and all profits will go towards purchasing much needed chromebooks for the school. Currently we are short, and classes are having to share… with a successful fundraiser we can supply enough to meet the kids needs which will be fantastic.

Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/twilight-cinema-south-coogee-sing-2-tickets-426563110747

Please note this is NOT a drop and go event, kids under 15 yrs must be supervised by an adult.

This is a massive event and we need all hands on deck, please please consider volunteering to ensure the night is a success. Many hands make light work, and if you haven’t had the chance to volunteer this year as yet this is your chance to give back 🙂 If you cannot help on the night, we also need plenty of people to assist in the day to pick up rolls, sausages, ice etc. Lots of options to help on stalls, event set up, event pack down, door tickets etc etc. Something for everyone…. link to sign up is here: https://signup.com/go/LFWGVcV

With thanks to our sponsors, Cameron Airlie, Mathnasium, Gecko Sports and Red Dawn.

Water Bubblers

Last year the P&C were successful in obtaining a grant for Water Bubblers at the school. These were recently installed and look fantastic. Kids are loving using them, and they are located all around the grounds to encourage water refills! Thanks to Ari Pappas for his amazing grant application skills, and Benn Bramich for organising the installation.

CLOSEast Survey

Some more information on the CLOSEast schools survey, plus the P&C Alliance which is being led by members of our school community. This Alliance is not run in conjunction with CLOSEast, but supports public education in our area.

Share your thoughts on public education options in the Eastern Suburbs

With the NSW state election coming up next year, CLOSEast are gathering the true views from the parents in the Eastern Suburbs (an area broadly East of the M1 all the way down to La Perouse) on how they feel about public education in the area.

The purpose of the High School Choice and Perceptions in Sydney East 2022 survey is to document factors considered in high school selection and gather anecdotal views regarding public education in Sydney’s East.

Some of you may have completed a similar survey a few years ago and were disappointed with the outcome. Please don’t let that put you off completing it now, there have been a lot of changes since then which makes us feel confident that we can get a better outcome this time. A survey report will be made public this time and with the upcoming election, the politicians are keen to win our votes…!

The more responses we get, the more significant the results! Plus, the better we can advocate for the needs and desires of our community with the NSW Department of Education and our State and Federal MPs as well as with our Councils.

PLEASE share this survey link far and wide within your parent networks.
We’re super keen to hear from pre-school parents too, so please share in those networks.

UPDATE – Eastern Suburbs P&C Alliance

The Eastern Suburbs P&C Alliance consists of delegates from public school P&C Associations in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, an area broadly East of the Eastern Distributor and Southern Cross Drive. We are independent of the NSW P&C Federation, although our area is within the NSW P&C Federation’s Sydney electorate.

The aims of the Alliance are to:
• be a collective voice for P&Cs in the area, independent of the Federation or our schools
• advocate for public education and our families
• provide a forum for P&Cs to share information and help each other
• collaborate with Government bodies, the Federation and like-minded organisations to achieve the above
Our P&C Association members are also independent organisations, and the Alliance has no powers over its members or their own advocacy. The Alliance representatives are all volunteers.

Going forward, the Eastern Suburbs P&C Alliance are led by four Co-Convenors:
Jonathan (Bondi Beach PS), Leanne (Randwick Girls PS), Kristin and Liam (South Coogee PS)
If you are keen to learn more, you are most welcome to contact the Alliance via our email address easternsuburbspandcalliance@gmail.com

Kindy Enrolments – 2023

Currently enrolments are down for 2023, which means the school will drop from 22 to 18 classes. This means funding will be impacted in the future so please be sure to promote the school to friends and family in the area. Out of area enrolments are being considered.

Exec Roles – 2023

2023 sees our illustrious leader Jodie Steele depart from her Presidential Role (sad face) and we need some new faces to assist in the Exec Team. There will be lots of support from existing members so don’t be alarmed and please come and join us.

Roles – President, Vice President x 2, Treasurer, Secretary, General Exec roles.

We will also be looking for 2 roles in the uniform shop and someone to run the Scholastic Book Fair.

If interested or wanting further info please feel free to reach out to the current Exec Team (Jodie Steele, Helen Randall, Brad Mitchell, Jenny Connell, Mai Zhou, Simon Griffin, Kristin Rusznyak, Benn Bramich, Liam Burns, Ari Pappas) or email spcs.pandc@gmail.com

Thats all for now! Yikes busy time!! Hope to see you all at the Twilight Cinema, otherwise the next P&C meeting will be Wednesday 23 November.
