Hi everyone, welcome back! We hope everyone had a great holiday (and survived!) and is well back into the school routine.
We’ve got a lot to talk about at the beginning of the year, so please see below all the activities and information for the first half of Term 1.
Welcome P&C Meeting – 12th February
Our first P&C Meeting of the year is this Wednesday 12th February. Start off the new year with us, with drinks and nibbles provided to welcome all.
We will be covering off quite a lot in things in this meeting, so this is your chance to have your say from the start. Plus, if you’re a new parent it’s a great opportunity to meet other parents, as well as the School Executive Team – including the Principal, Deputy and Assistant Principal who are usually in attendance.
All topics need to be submitted to scps.pandc@gmail.com by the end of the day tomorrow (Monday 10th Feb) please so we have time to get it onto the agenda.
P&C AGM – 11th March
The P&C AGM will be in Week 7 of this term, and this is where we vote in the new Executive Team. As such, we are opening up the Expressions of Interest for all roles now.
Being a part of the Executive is an excellent opportunity to drive our community and make a real difference; and with a few experienced members staying on, you will have all the support and guidance you need to be a part of a great team!
All role descriptions are on the P&C website. If you have any questions, or are interested in one of the roles please email scps.pandc@gmail.com.

Class Lists
At the start of every year the P&C collects parent/student information in our online class list initiative. We need to do this at the beginning of every year, as the school is unable to provide us with contact information due to Department Policy, and Privacy reasons means we need to recollect from scratch yearly.
This list collection is threefold in its usage:
- Collect parent/carers contact details so we communicate P&C information throughout the year
- Share parent contact information with other members of your class only, to assist with class specific events, comms, birthday parties, playdates etc
- Collect volunteer information for our various committees and fundraising events that we run throughout the year
We encourage everyone to fill out this form so they can be kept well informed throughout the year of what is going on. It should take you no more than 1 – 5 minutes to complete.
We’d also like to encourage each parent/carer to volunteer for at least one event or committee this year to help spread the load. We have so many options available, so simply pick the one that suits your interests, skill set, or time availability!
Any questions about volunteering or submitting your information via this list please direct to scps.pandc@gmail.com. The form will close for submissions on Friday 21st February 2020.

Class Parent Representatives
One of the options you’ll notice for volunteering is to be a Class Parent Rep. This is a wonderful role that is often shared between 2-3 parents in each class.
The role of Class Parent Rep is to manage the communications to other parents in your class from the P&C and from the school where applicable. This usually comes in the form of forwarding emails, sharing Facebook posts, or sending info via WhatsApp – depending on how your class has decided to share information (sometimes it’s all 3!).
The other role for Class Parent Reps is to help lead and rally other volunteers for certain events during the year that may be allocated to Year Groups.
Please consider volunteering for this rewarding role via the above Class Lists link.
P&C Calendar/Events
We are currently finalising the P&C Events Calendar for the year – including what year or group is allocated to each general event. These will be finalised at the P&C Meeting next week.
Dates for these events are:
- Grandparents Day Morning Tea (inc Easter Raffle) – Monday 6th April

- Father’s Day Breakfast – Friday 4th September

We will also be running 2-3 major events this year – commencing with our annual Twilight Cinema (full details below). We would like to decide on what these other activities are at the P&C Meeting this week – some suggestions currently pending dates and someone to lead the event are:
- Colour Run (Term 2/3)
- Parents Social night (Term 3/4)
- Halloween Disco (Term 4)
If you’d like to have a say on this, please come along to the meeting!
Twilight Cinema – Friday 20th March
We are very excited to announce our 3rd annual family Twilight Cinema, on Friday 20th March!
This year be whisked away to a faraway place and amazing outdoor experience, including a screening of the 2019 real life remake of Aladdin! This is a community event, all welcome (but please leave your fur babies at home).
Aladdin is a lovable street urchin who meets Princess Jasmine, the beautiful daughter of the sultan of Agrabah. While visiting her exotic palace, Aladdin stumbles upon a magic oil lamp that unleashes a powerful, wisecracking, larger-than-life genie. As Aladdin and the genie start to become friends, they must soon embark on a dangerous mission to stop the evil sorcerer, Jafar, from overthrowing the kingdom.
Come join us, dress up if you choose, and enjoy a balmy evening with this family favourite movie.
We’ll be holding the ever-popular Twilight Disco before the movie to get your little ones into the spirit. We’ll also have performers and performances to keep everyone entertained while we wait for the sun to go down.
If you feel like dressing up, we’d love that! We’ll be giving out prizes to the best dressed, most original, most enthusiastic kids there!
Of course we’ll also have food, treats, snacks, and other fun twilight glowy light up type toys to help make your night even more spectacular.
This is an alcohol-free event. Please do not bring any alcoholic beverages or glass bottles on-site. If you do so you may be asked to leave the premises immediately.
All profits go directly to the South Coogee Public School P&C, supporting our wonderful school with learning and support resources.
** If you are interested in supporting this event via a sponsorship, please contact jodiesteele@optusnet.com.au for more details! It’s a fabulous way to support the school and get amazing exposure for your business **
Further details on this event are available on our website… TICKETS ARE ON SALE VERY SOON!

Scholastic Book Club – Coordinator Required
We are looking for somebody to take over the role of Scholastic Book Club Coordinator. This involves distributing 8 issues a year to the classes and when the books come in you need to sort them and again deliver them to the classes. The books are already pre-sorted into classes so they only need to be sorted into the separate bags for the individual kids.
This can be done on any day during school hours so is very flexible. Of course you can ask for help on this day so that you don’t have to do the sorting all by yourself. You also need to close the order online and you might have to answer questions from other parents.
Cate Kloos, the current book club coordinator, is happy to meet with you and show you everything. If you have any questions, you can contact Cate via email to catherine.kloos@gmx.de
Finally, make sure you connect with us online…
If you are on Facebook, it is a great way to stay connected with up to date notifications and ask questions of the P&C and wider Parent Body. Please ensure you join our P&C Facebook Group for this reason. Make sure you answer the 3 questions in full please, so I know you are legitimately from the school. If you don’t see those 3 questions or don’t get approved within 48 hours please send an email to scps.pandc@gmail.com and we’ll look into it.
