SNOWBALL WINTER DISCO – Friday 16 June
Our first major event of the year is the ever popular disco, this time we are theming in winter whites… think snowflakes, pine trees, and whites glowing in the UV lights. We are lucky to have the amazing Lil’ Ravers back to DJ for us, all the way from the Central Coast. Due to feedback, we are splitting this years disco to two age groups. K-2 will happen at 5-6.30pm, followed by the big kids Yr 3-6 at 7-8.30pm.
Tickets are ON SALE NOW – so grab them while they are hot (or cold?!) Tickets will be available in very limited quantities on the night, at an increased cost, so pre purchasing is highly recommended. For more information at to purchase please click the link.

PARENTS INFORMATION NIGHT
VISIBLE LEARNING + NEW CURRICULUM NIGHT:
For anyone that missed the presentation on visible learning here is a copy of the slide presentation for parents. SCPS has been doing visible learning for 9 years now and it was positive to hear that other schools in the area are reaching out for advice on it from SCPS as the evidence behind it has shown it’s very successful for our learners hence why other schools are jumping on board.
• Curriculum changes for K-2 include a much stronger focus on mandatory handwriting. It has always been taught in the classroom but now it is actually written into the syllabus. Also increased focus on phonics, reading, oral language and listening skills.
• Curriculum changes for the older children (Y3-6) includes a stronger focus on vocabulary, reading and comprehension and you will see the new curriculum roll out for this age group next year. Also more of a focus on “reading for meaning”, so it’s not being able to just “read” and decode the words on the page it’s about comprehending what they are actually reading.
All classes have also been introduced to Number Talks. This is to help the children not only arrive at correct answers in Maths but to show their reasoning behind an answer and how they got to it. There is often no right or wrong answer, but these number talks are there to see how they got to their answer, how they worked it out.
Parents were impressed by these changes and how it will benefit all of them and their learning, no matter what level they are at and progressing towards.
It was also great to walk around in the hall and see examples of the visible learning and number talks children have been doing and what children are discussing and contributing in the classroom. All learners get a voice and their thoughts are written down and there is no right or wrong answer, just open inclusive discussions.
Look out for future information evenings, as these are invaluable resources.

MOTHERS DAY
Our Mother’s Day breakfast was a great success, it was lovely to see so many Mums and Carers attend and also have a look around the classrooms. Thanks to Liam Burns and all the Dads that helped on the day.

The P&C team look forward to seeing the community at one of our upcoming events,
Until then, Your P&C
